A Lecture by Regional Studies Center to Commemorate Speicher Massacre

Following the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and in line with the directives of the University of Mosul’s presidency regarding the anniversary of the Speicher massacre, the Center for Regional Studies at the University of Mosul held an educational lecture on the anniversary of the massacre by Assist. Lecturer Hamoud Muhammad Thannoun on October 30, 2024.
The lecture aimed to shed light on one of the most brutal humanitarian massacres in Iraq’s modern history, to promote awareness about the importance of national unity, combating extremism, and continuous work to achieve justice.
On the anniversary of the Speicher massacre, which took place on 12/6/2014, Iraqis and the world recall one of the most horrific crimes of terrorism, which claimed the lives of about 1700 Iraqi youth in Camp Speicher in Salahuddin Governorate, where unarmed youth were captured and subjected to mass execution by the terrorist organization ISIS, leaving behind a tragedy that still evokes deep public grief and resentment.
The commemoration of the massacre comes as a reminder to the world of the necessity of eradicating extremist ideas and the need to apply justice against those involved, in addition to supporting the families of the victims, strengthening efforts in the field of documenting terrorist crimes, and the importance of spreading awareness and educating society on the need for peaceful coexistence and rejecting extremism in all its forms, to preserve the security, stability, and unity of Iraq.
