Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Workshop on Cyber Addiction

The Regional Studies Center/Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Presidency of the Mosul University/Studies and Planning Department/Sustainable Development Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Cyber Addiction: Causes and Treatments” delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdulrahman Al-Obaidi on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the growing phenomenon of electronic addiction, especially among the youth, and to review its most prominent psychological, social, and technical causes, in addition to discussing its negative effects on mental health and societal behavior.

The workshop program included scientific interventions from several academics who addressed multiple topics, including the relationship between digital isolation and addiction, the role of the family and educational institutions in awareness and prevention, in addition to presenting successful international experiences in curbing this phenomenon, and practical proposals for preventive policies and integrated therapeutic interventions that include the psychological, social and technical aspects.

The workshop concluded with recommendations such as strengthening digital awareness, encouraging moderate use of technology, and developing national strategies to deal with e-addiction within a comprehensive health and educational framework.
