Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Lecture on Voluntary Afforestation Campaigns and their Role in Increasing Green Spaces in Nineveh Governorate

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized a scientific lecture titled “Voluntary Afforestation Campaigns and their Role in Increasing Green Spaces: Nineveh Governorate as a model”, presented by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jallud on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of voluntary community initiatives in enhancing vegetation cover and improving the urban environment in Nineveh Governorate, especially in light of the increasing environmental challenges and climate change facing the region.
The content of the lecture included a detailed presentation of the experiences of afforestation campaigns carried out in different areas of Nineveh, analyzing their positive impact on environmental health and the urban landscape, in addition to reviewing the most important obstacles facing these campaigns, such as lack of funding and poor community awareness, and ways to overcome them through partnership between academic institutions and civil society.
At the end of the lecture, the need to support voluntary efforts and adopt green policies in future development plans was emphasized, as they play a vital role in achieving sustainable development and preserving the local environment.
