Director of Regional Studies Center Participates in the Nineveh Universities Conference on the Role of Academics in Promoting National Unity

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, and the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the University of Mosul hosted the Central Conference of Nineveh Public and Private Universities, which was held under the slogan: “The Academic Role in Achieving National Unity and Fighting Extremist Ideology.”
The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Wahid al-Ibrahimi, Prof. Dr. Lubna Khamis Mahdi, Director General of the Research and Development Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to the presidents of Nineveh public and private universities, and some academic and research figures.
The Director of the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul participated in the conference through a research paper in which he addressed the importance of the academic role in consolidating the inclusive national identity and promoting a culture of pluralism and tolerance, stressing that academic institutions have a historical responsibility to spread awareness and confront closed-mindedness and extremism through scientific research and intellectual and community activities, which is what the center adopts.
The conference focused on ways to activate universities’ role in promoting peaceful coexistence and rejecting violence through scientific and cognitive arguments. It also discussed developing educational curricula that promote the concepts of citizenship and acceptance of others and supporting student initiatives that promote peace and unity.
The conference is part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s efforts to consolidate the culture of national unity and strengthen the role of universities as platforms for enlightenment and building community peace, especially in areas that have witnessed security and social challenges in the past.
