Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held an extensive meeting on Sunday, September 14, 2025, that brought together Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Dhahir, Director of the Center; Prof. Dr. Luqman Omar Al-Nuaimi, Editor-in-Chief of the Regional Studies Journal; and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdulrahman Al-Obaidi, Managing Editor of the journal, to discuss the practical steps required to enhance the journal and meet international publishing standards.
The meeting addressed the main challenges facing the journal, including the need to improve the quality of published research, adhere to global academic criteria, expand publication in both Arabic and English, and strengthen research cooperation with universities and other research centers. Participants also discussed strategies to increase citation rates, alongside adopting an electronic peer-review system aligned with modern technological developments.
The attendees agreed on a short- and medium-term strategic plan grounded in transparency and quality, aiming to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), in addition to supporting scientific research as a cornerstone of community development.
The meeting concluded that overcoming existing obstacles requires collective efforts from the editorial board, researchers, and academic institutions. It also emphasized that the journal possesses solid scientific foundations that qualify it to join global indexing databases in the near future, thereby strengthening the standing of Iraqi scholarship.
