Regional Studies Center Hosts a Lecture on Applied Research Role in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

As part of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a scientific lecture titled “Applied Research as a Pillar of Scientific Research”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Younis Muaid Younis, researcher and faculty member at the College of Political Science.
The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of applied research in supporting society and state institutions by providing practical and objective solutions to the challenges facing various sectors. Dr. Younis emphasized that applied research serves as a bridge between academic knowledge and practical needs, making it an effective tool for achieving sustainable development.
Key themes of the lecture included choosing a research topic, accurately defining the problem, methods of data collection and analysis, and presenting results that can contribute to community service. It also stressed that the success of applied research depends on its level of engagement with official institutions and direct beneficiaries of its outcomes.
The lecture aligned with several relevant Sustainable Development Goals, including: Quality Education (Goal 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Goal 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17).
The lecture concluded by reaffirming that strengthening applied research within universities represents a strategic pathway for advancing sustainable development and consolidating the role of academic institutions in serving society.
