Regional Studies Center Organizes a Scientific Lecture on the Culture of Citizenship and Peaceful Coexistence

The Regional Studies Center, in cooperation with the Human Rights Division and the Women’s Affairs Unit at the university, organized a scientific lecture entitled “Promoting a Culture of Citizenship and Peaceful Coexistence” delivered by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jaloud, in the presence of a number of academics and researchers, on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
The lecture aimed to promote awareness of active citizenship values and highlight the importance of peaceful coexistence in building stable and cohesive societies. It also emphasized the role of academic institutions in strengthening these principles among all members of society, contributing to comprehensive development and sustainable peace.
It discussed the concept of citizenship from social and cultural perspectives, its relation to human rights, justice, and equality, stressing that peaceful coexistence is fundamental to achieving economic and social development and combating extremism and violence. He further called for fostering a culture of dialogue and acceptance of others, as well as for building bridges of communication among different segments of society.
The lecture concluded with valuable interventions from attendees, enriching the discussion and contributing to the development of academic perspectives on fostering the spirit of citizenship within both university and community contexts.
This event aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), as it promotes the values of peace and sustainable development across society.
