Regional Studies Center Celebrates Arabic Language Day and Affirms its Role in Regional Communication and Sustainable Development

Regional Studies Center participated in the central celebration organized by the University of Mosul on the occasion of Arabic Language Day, held at Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Jalili Hall, in the presence of the President of the University of Mosul, the President of Nineveh University, Dr. Muzahim Al-Khayyat, along with a number of professors, researchers, and those interested in cultural and linguistic affairs. The event took place on Thursday, 18 December 2025.

The celebration continued through a scientific panel discussion hosted by the Regional Studies Center at its headquarters, featuring the presentation of two research papers. The first paper, delivered by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jaloud and titled “The Unique Features of the Arabic Language,” examined the structural and cultural characteristics that distinguish Arabic and its role in preserving civilizational identity. The second paper was presented by Prof. Dr. Imad Khalil Ibrahim under the title “The Adoption of the Arabic Language at the United Nations,” highlighting the political and diplomatic dimensions of Arabic’s status within international organizations.

In its concluding remarks, the panel emphasized the importance of the Arabic language within the regional context and its pivotal role in enhancing cultural, economic, and political communication among the countries of the region. It also underscored Arabic as an effective instrument of soft power and a key factor in fostering regional understanding.

Participants further stressed that such celebrations contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education, the preservation of cultural diversity, and the strengthening of knowledge partnerships. They affirmed the necessity of supporting the Arabic language in scientific research, education, and the media as a fundamental pillar of development and stability.
