Regional Studies Center Hosts UNESCO Chair Meeting to Discuss Annual Plan and Upcoming Activities

Regional Studies Center hosted a meeting of the UNESCO Chair, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ziad Abdulwahab Al-Nuaimi, on Monday, January 5, 2026, with the participation of Chair members. The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic partnerships and coordinate joint scientific initiatives.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the UNESCO Chair’s strategic plan and discussed the key scientific and academic activities scheduled for implementation in the upcoming period. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for preparing the expanded conference of UNESCO Chairs, in line with national and international academic priorities.

Participants emphasized the vital role of academic chairs in supporting scientific research, building institutional capacities, and enhancing cooperation among universities and research centers, particularly in areas related to sustainable development, peace, education, and the development of resilient societies capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

The meeting aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education, Goal 16 on promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, and Goal 17 on partnerships for the goals, through supporting cross-institutional academic initiatives and strengthening scientific dialogue at both the local and international levels.
