Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a seminar for the research entitled “Illiteracy in Tunisia after 2011: Causes and Consequences,” presented by “Assist. Prof. Dr. Kifah Abbas Al-Hamdani” on October 15, 2023, attended by Center’s researchers and teachers.

The seminar addressed the illiteracy increasing in Tunisia regardless of government efforts to reduce this phenomenon which has significantly worsened since the outbreak of the revolution in 2011 even though Tunisian governments have launched many programs to eliminate illiteracy or reduce its rate to a minimum such as adult education, but recent statistics confirm that the number of illiterate people has risen to two million which indicates the failure of government plans to lessen this phenomenon.

The seminar aimed to study the spread of the phenomenon of illiteracy in Tunisia after the revolution in 2011 in general, and whether the reason for this was the failure of educational policies after the revolution to contain and address this phenomenon.

The research included three sections: the first one dealt with the spread of illiteracy in Tunisia after the January 2011 revolution, while the second section reviewed the reasons for the spread of the phenomenon of illiteracy under the new regime, while the third one involved the future consequences resulting from the spread of illiteracy in Tunisia.
