A Lecture at Al-Andalus Secondary School on Building a Culture of Citizenship in Iraq as Part of the Regional Studies Center’s Community Service Activities

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its role in community service and strengthen social awareness among young people, the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul organized a public lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Mithaq Khairallah Jaloud at Al-Andalus Secondary School for Boys, Sunday, November 16, 2025. The session, titled “Building a Culture of Citizenship in Iraq,” was attended by a group of students and socially aware youth.
The lecture addressed the importance of fostering values of belonging, responsibility, respect for the law, and the active role of citizens in state-building. It also highlighted the challenges facing young people in consolidating a positive culture of citizenship amid the political and social transformations underway in Iraq.
The speaker emphasized that cultivating informed citizenship is a fundamental gateway to achieving stability and development, calling on students to engage actively in promoting civil behavior and strengthening the spirit of social solidarity.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals through:
Goal 4: Quality Education – by providing meaningful awareness that enhances students’ understanding of citizenship values and strengthens their intellectual and social capacities.
Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – by promoting a culture of citizenship, reinforcing respect for the rule of law, and establishing principles of effective civic participation.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – through collaboration between the Regional Studies Center and educational institutions in Mosul to serve the community and support stability.
The Regional Studies Center affirms that these events are a continuation of its approach of openness to society and building a conscious generation capable of contributing to a prosperous future for Iraq.
