Regional Studies Center held a seminar by Dr. “Amira Ismail Al-Obaidi” entitled “Egyptian-Turkish Relations (2002-2013): A Study of the Political Field” in the presence of the Center’s researchers, on March 16, 2022.
Al-Obaidi said that the study aims to highlight the most important political events of the Egyptian-Turkish relations during the mentioned period, which had many repercussions on both sides.
The researcher pointed out that the study derives its significance from the fact that it sheds light on the Egyptian-Turkish relations, which is one of the vital issues, whose role and impact on the two countries in particular and the region as a whole have emerged.
The “researcher” added that the study touched on the Egyptian-Turkish relations (2002-2011), as the relations between the two countries were characterized by tension sometimes and attraction at other times. These relations represented two central regional powers in the Middle East, although the regional role of Turkey was more effective and expansive in the region, thus this fact constitutes a central determinant; namely, that the Egyptian-Turkish relations will not reach the level of a strategic alliance, but rather their inter-relations and the degree of their cooperation will continue to fluctuate between ebb and flow, and will always be marred by a high degree of competition. The establishment of these alliances often fails if they are made between two regional powers of equal strength as a result of their competition over-exercising influence and playing a leadership role within the framework of the alliance itself on the one hand, and within the region as a whole on the other hand.
