College of Tourism Sciences Organizes a Training Course

Under the guidance of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Nayef Mahmoud, the college, in coordination with the Continuing Education Centre and the Presidency of the University of Mosul / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organised a training course titled “From Cash to Blockchain: A Qualitative Shift in Electronic Payment Systems in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.” The course was held from February 23 to 27, 2025, to highlight modern developments in payment systems and their impact on the tourism and hospitality sector.
The first day of the course began with a lecture delivered by Dr. Haitham Ahmed Hussein titled “Bartering and Primitive Payment Methods and Their Impact on Tourism in Ancient Times.” The lecture reviewed the historical development of payment methods—from bartering systems to paper currencies and digital money—explaining their influence on tourism and commercial activities throughout different historical periods.
Asst attended the course. Prof. Dr Manal Raafat Khalid, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, alongside a group of faculty members and staff who enriched the session with valuable questions and contributions, added an interactive dimension that broadened understanding and enhanced scientific discussion.
The upcoming days of the course will feature a variety of lectures designed to enable participants to stay current with the latest advancements in this vital field.
This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting continuous learning and specialized training, Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through developing workforce skills in the tourism sector, Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by emphasizing digital transformation and modern payment systems, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through effective collaboration between the college, the Continuing Education Center, and the Sustainable Development Unit.
