The Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences Joins a Ministerial Committee

The Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Naif Mahmood, was selected as a member of the ministerial committee tasked with developing programs that contribute to highlighting and strengthening the civilizational, religious, cultural, and heritage identity of the capital, Baghdad, in support of the government’s efforts for the “Baghdad: Arab Tourism Capital 2025” initiative.
The committee meeting was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2024, at the Directorate of Research and Development, chaired by Prof. Dr. Lubna Khamees Mahdi, Director General of the Directorate.

During the meeting, the Dean presented a set of proposals to support the activities of “Baghdad: Arab Tourism Capital 2025,” including announcing tourism events on all official platforms, launching promotional campaigns in airports, border crossings, and ports, inviting prominent artistic figures to attend the events in Baghdad, establishing an official electronic platform for tourism marketing under the name “Visit Iraq,” and forming a Higher Tourism Committee in Iraq responsible for developing national tourism strategies with broad authority.

This meeting aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting the commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing Iraq’s cultural and civilizational image.
