College of Tourism Sciences Organises Awareness Lectures on National Afforestation Day

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Naef Mahmoud, the Departments of Tourism Studies and Hotel Studies, in collaboration with the University of Mosul Presidency / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized a series of awareness lectures on the occasion of National Afforestation Day, held on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
The event opened with a lecture delivered by Asst. Lecturer Hiba Khalid Bakr, Rapporteur of the Department of Tourism Studies, titled “The Importance of Afforestation in the University Environment.” She discussed the vital role of afforestation in enhancing the campus environment, promoting environmental awareness among students, reducing pollution, providing healthier spaces, and contributing to the university’s natural aesthetic appeal.
A second lecture titled “The Role of Afforestation in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” was presented by Asst. Lecturer Osama Mohammed Ahmed from the Department of Tourism Studies. He highlighted the role of afforestation in supporting global efforts aimed at environmental protection, mitigating climate change, and promoting biodiversity.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action through raising awareness of climate mitigation, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by encouraging greener university spaces, Goal 15: Life on Land through emphasizing the ecological value of afforestation, in addition to supporting Goal 4: Quality Education by promoting responsible environmental learning, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaborative efforts across university units to serve the community and the environment.
