College of Tourism Sciences Holds a Discussion Panel in Cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Naif Mahmoud, Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, the College, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, organized a discussion panel entitled “Choosing the Right Major Between Women’s Aspirations, Capabilities, and the Labor Market.” The session was presented by Professor Dr. Alaa Abdullah Hussein on Tuesday, March 17, 2025.

The lecture addressed the role of women in choosing an academic specialization that aligns with their ambitions and abilities, highlighting success stories of women in various fields, and exploring strategies for achieving balance between personal aspirations and the demands of the labor market. The panel was attended by the Dean of the College, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, the Head of the Department of Hotel Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Abdullah Hussein, along with a number of the college’s staff members. The event also witnessed positive interaction from the attendees, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable content presented.

This activity comes as part of the College of Tourism Sciences’ continuous efforts to raise awareness about the importance of empowering women in various scientific and practical fields and supporting their professional journey, in alignment with Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by enhancing women’s capabilities and expanding their academic and professional choices, and in correspondence with Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through encouraging women to pursue specializations that meet labor market needs and enhance their economic participation, thereby contributing to the development of an informed and productive community capable of achieving sustainable development.
