The College of Tourism Sciences Organizes an Awareness Lecture on Human Trafficking in Iraq

Under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Naif Mahmood, Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, and in an effort to enhance student awareness, the college organized an educational lecture titled “Human Trafficking in Iraq,” delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Obaid, Head of the Legal Unit in the college, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

The lecture aimed to shed light on the dangers of human trafficking as one of the most serious human crimes, highlighting the importance of community awareness and cooperation to combat it, while providing students with the knowledge needed to protect themselves from falling victim to such crimes. The lecture also discussed the forms of human trafficking, the contributing factors behind it, and the legal penalties associated with it according to Iraqi and international legislation.

The session witnessed positive interaction from the students, who expressed great interest in the topic and raised several questions that enriched the discussion and deepened their understanding.

This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting the college’s commitment to strengthening legal awareness and supporting the role of education in combating transnational crimes.
