College of Tourism Sciences Holds First Industrial Advisory Council Meeting

The College of Tourism Sciences at the University of Mosul held its first Industrial Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, Dean of the College, with the attendance of Assistant Professor Zaid Raad Younis, Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Talal Khudhur, Head of the Department of Tourism Studies; and Mr. Wissam Abdullah Hussein, Head of the Department of Hotel Studies — all of whom are members of the council. Also in attendance were several representatives from relevant industrial and tourism sectors.

This meeting falls within the college’s efforts to strengthen partnership and integration with the industrial and tourism sectors, in a way that contributes to the development of higher education outputs, aligns them with the needs of the labor market, and promotes sustainable development in the tourism sector.

During the meeting, the council discussed several key topics, most notably:

  •  Strengthening cooperation between the university and the industrial and tourism sectors.
  • Developing academic programs to meet labor market demands.
  • Providing field training opportunities for students and recent graduates.
  • Benefit from the specialized expertise of professionals in the industrial and tourism sectors.
  • Proposing new specializations to be added to the College of Tourism Sciences, thereby enhancing academic diversity and responding to market needs.
  • Exploring mechanisms for providing employment opportunities to graduates of the College of Tourism Sciences through effective linkage with the labor market and relevant institutions.
  • Supporting and improving tourism in Nineveh Governorate through program development and collaboration with both public and private tourism entities.

The Industrial Advisory Council serves as a strategic and effective platform to enhance communication between the university and the job market, contribute to improving education quality, increase employment opportunities, and advance the tourism sector in the governorate, reflecting Mosul’s historical and cultural significance.

This meeting aligns with several of the University of Mosul’s Sustainable Development Goals. It supports Goal 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing the academic outputs and linking them to labor market needs. It contributes to Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by creating training and employment opportunities for graduates. It also promotes Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by strengthening collaboration with the industrial sector and developing academic programs that keep pace with evolving professional requirements. In addition, the meeting reinforces Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by enhancing the tourism sector in Nineveh Province. It supports Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering effective partnerships between the university and the industrial and tourism sectors.
