Asst. Prof. Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, participated in the Deans’ Committee of Tourism Colleges meeting in Iraqi universities, hosted by the College of Tourism Sciences at Al-Mustansiriyah University on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
The meeting, attended by the deans of both public and private tourism colleges, discussed mechanisms for unifying examinations among colleges and adapting the Bologna educational system to suit the specific context of Iraqi educational institutions. Additionally, proposals were reviewed for launching an international scientific conference in partnership with global universities to enhance academic exchange and research collaboration.
Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid emphasised the importance of expanding postgraduate opportunities for tourism sciences graduates and supporting the integration of technical institute graduates into college programs, aiming to achieve synergy between vocational and academic education and ensure the sustainable development of qualified tourism professionals.
These initiatives align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), through curriculum development and improved academic achievement, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by expanding cooperation with universities and scientific institutions both inside and outside Iraq.
This meeting comes as part of the ongoing efforts by Iraqi tourism colleges to build a unified vision that supports the development of tourism education and prepares students to meet the demands of the labor market.
