The Department of Hotel Studies Holds a Scientific Workshop Entitled “Training and Equipping Hotel Employees”

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manal Rafat Khalid, the Department of Hotel Studies held a scientific workshop titled “Training and Preparing Hotel Staff”, in cooperation with the Presidency of the University of Mosul / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit. The workshop took place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in one of the college halls.

The workshop was delivered by Asst. Lecturer Hiba Khalid Bakr, the rapporteur of the Department of Hotel Studies. It addressed key topics related to preparing and qualifying hotel employees, focusing on guest relations skills, professional hotel service delivery, and the importance of on-the-job training in enhancing the competence of workers in this vital sector.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, and the Head of the Department of Hotel Studies, along with several staff members and students.

At the end of the session, Asst. Lecturer Hiba Khalid emphasised the importance of keeping pace with developments in hotel management, given their direct impact on improving performance and enhancing the quality of services provided, which contributes to supporting and developing the tourism industry in Iraq.

This workshop aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, by developing the skills of students and staff; Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by enhancing the efficiency of tourism sector employees; Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, through supporting a sustainable and professionally managed tourism industry; and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through active collaboration between the college and university units to improve academic and professional training.
