The College of Tourism Sciences Holds a Workshop Entitled “Drugs… The Silent Danger” as Part of Anti-Drug Week Activities

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, the College of Tourism Sciences, in cooperation with the Presidency of the University of Mosul / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Drugs… The Silent Danger” on Thursday, 20 November 2025, as part of Anti-Drug Week activities.

The workshop was attended by the Dean, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, several staff members, and students of the college. The event began with a lecture delivered by Dr. Mohammed Abdulhadi Jassim, who discussed the types of drugs, their chemical compositions, and the symptoms associated with their use, highlighting the serious risks they pose to individuals and society.

In the second session, Dr. Reem Nawaf Al-Sarraaf presented a lecture on the main causes of drug consumption, exploring the psychological, social, and health-related factors that lead young people into the cycle of addiction, while emphasizing the importance of awareness and early prevention.

This workshop aligns with the University of Mosul’s efforts to promote community awareness, combat harmful social phenomena, and protect students and society from the dangers of drugs. In this context, the College of Tourism Sciences affirms that this activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals related to health, safety, and building strong communities. It contributes to Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), reinforces Goal 4 (Quality Education), aligns with Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and supports Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by helping enhance community security and stability.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the Dean expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the lecturers for their efforts in delivering this important event.
