College of Tourism Sciences Holds a Workshop on Rural Tourism in Nineveh Province

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, a workshop titled “Rural Tourism and Its Effective Role in Attracting Tourists in Nineveh Province” was held on Monday, December 24, 2025. The workshop was presented by Dr. Asan Hashim Hamdoun as part of the college’s activities aimed at raising awareness of the various types of tourism, including rural tourism, and its role in supporting the local economy.
The workshop aimed to highlight the most prominent natural features found in the rural areas of Nineveh Province and their potential to attract tourists, with an emphasis on the importance of sustainably investing in these resources, as well as developing infrastructure and services that support tourism.
This workshop aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 15 (Life on Land). It also supports Goal 4 (Quality Education).
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasising the importance of advancing rural tourism, supporting tourism investments, and improving services in rural areas in a way that enhances tourist attraction and contributes to achieving sustainable development in Nineveh Province.
