To Protect the University Community… The College of Tourism Sciences Organizes a Symposium on Electronic Financial Fraud

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote awareness and enhance community security, and in support of the role of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, and in cooperation with the National Security Service / Ninawa Universities and Institutes Security Directorate, the College of Tourism Sciences at the University of Mosul organized an awareness seminar titled “Combating Electronic Financial Fraud” on Monday, December 24, 2025. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr Manal Raafat Khalid, the Director of the Counselling and Educational Guidance Department, Asst. Prof. Dr Saad Ghanem Ali, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, heads the departments, and some faculty members, staff, and students.
A distinguished group delivered the seminar from the Intelligence Directorate:
- Mr. Mohammed Zidane Mohammed – Director of the Financial Intelligence Department
- Mr. Ali Abdulghani Aouni – Deputy Director
- Mr. Hassan Ahmed – Director of University Security
- Mr. Omar Noufal Abdulbaqi
The speakers discussed the concept of electronic financial fraud, its various types, and the methods used in its execution, presenting real-life examples of fraud schemes targeting bank accounts and electronic cards. They also provided detailed explanations of preventive measures, ways to safeguard financial information, and the security authorities to contact in the event of exposure to such crimes.
The seminar further emphasized the importance of protecting electronic payment cards, such as MasterCard. It warned against sharing card data or entering it on untrusted websites or links due to the significant financial risks involved, including theft of balances or exposure to electronic blackmail.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the Dean presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers in recognition of their efforts and the valuable awareness information they provided, which carries significant societal impact.
This seminar aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
