Dean’s Speech
Nineveh: The Cradle of Civilisation
Here, where history breathes through majestic ruins, sacred shrines, and ancient churches—and where nature reveals its enchanting beauty—tourism finds its true beginning. Owing to this city’s exceptional character and cultural richness, the College of Tourism Sciences was established to prepare qualified professionals who will contribute to sustainable tourism development.
The idea to found this institution emerged in alignment with the College’s mission to offer high-quality academic education that bridges theory and practice and in pursuit of its goals to support the national economy by supplying the tourism and hospitality sectors with highly competent graduates. It now stands as a cornerstone in building the future of tourism in Iraq.
Recognising tourism as a promising industry capable of driving economic growth and fostering cultural exchange, the College of Tourism Sciences was inaugurated at the University of Mosul during the 2018–2019 academic year. This marked the beginning of an ambitious academic journey aimed at empowering Nineveh with a new generation of tourism professionals.
Since its establishment—the first of its kind in northern Iraq—the College has been committed to preparing students with the scientific knowledge, practical training, and professional skills necessary to succeed in various tourism and hospitality institutions. Thus, the College is vital in revitalising Iraq’s tourism sector.
We are proud of the milestones achieved thus far and remain committed to continuing our contribution in the service of this beloved nation.
With sincere wishes for success and prosperity to all.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Manal Rafat Khalid.
