Workshop on “Geodiversity in Nineveh Governorate”
The Dams and Water Resources Research Center, in cooperation with the Iraqi Geological Survey / Nineveh Office, organized a workshop entitled “Geodiversity in Nineveh Governorate” on Monday, October 6, 2025, in the hall of the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering at the university.
The workshop was part of the activities for World Geodiversity Day and aimed to highlight the geodiversity of Nineveh Governorate and its importance in promoting sustainable development and supporting the national economy.
The workshop included a series of lectures on the geology of the city, its natural resources of economic value, geological explorations in the governorate, potential geological tourist sites, and geophysical survey methods for natural resources. It also reviewed Nineveh Governorate’s contribution to the national economy through its industrial and tourist resources with investment potential.
The lectures were delivered by Prof. Dr. Qutaiba Al-Yuzbaki and Eng. Uday Younis Aziz from our Center, and Dr. Omar Elias Khidr from the Iraqi Geological Survey / Nineveh, sharing their scientific expertise in various aspects of geology and natural resource utilization.
