Board of Directors of the Dams and Water Resources Research Center Holds Its First Meeting of 2025

The Board of Directors of the Dams and Water Resources Research Center held its first meeting of the year on the morning of Monday, November 3, 2025, chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yousif Hashim Abdullah, Director of the Center, with the attendance of board members, including Mr. Hatem Tayeb Fathi, Senior Chief Engineer and Director of the Mosul Dam Project, Mr. Ahmed Nazem Ibrahim, Chief Engineer at Nineveh Planning Directorate, and the heads of the Center’s academic departments and board members.

The Center Director opened the meeting with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the scientific and research role of the Center in supporting and developing the water resources and dams sector, and commending the efforts of the departments and research staff in implementing scientific programs and plans during the past year.

The board discussed several important topics, including:

  • Reviewing the research plan completed in the previous year and evaluating the level of achievement.
  • Discussing the research plan for the new year to ensure alignment with the Center’s objectives, scientific strategy, and publication in international indexed databases.
  • Reviewing completed and planned activities, including scientific seminars, training courses, and workshops, and setting priorities according to the Center’s research and scientific needs.

The meeting also addressed the current status of water resources in Nineveh Governorate, reviewing the challenges facing water resource management and ways to address them through the Center’s applied and research studies in coordination with relevant authorities. The Center’s future strategy was discussed, and appropriate decisions were made to implement it, enhancing its role in supporting national plans for water resources management and achieving sustainable development.

Additionally, the board agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Center, the Mosul Dam Project Administration, and Nineveh Planning Directorate in the areas of planning and integrated water resources management, aiming to establish a water policy and set future plans for Nineveh Governorate to ensure sustainable and efficient management of water resources.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the board members emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and integration between academic and administrative departments to ensure the effective and comprehensive implementation of research programs and projects, and to achieve the Center’s strategic goals in serving the dams and water resources sector in Iraq.
