Specialized Discussion Session: Industrial Uses of Kaolin Clays

The Center, in cooperation with the Planning and Follow-up Department / Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency, organized a specialized discussion session entitled:
“Industrial Uses of Kaolin Clays,”
on Monday, December 29, 2025, presented by Prof. Dr. Qutaiba Tawfiq Al-Youzbeki.
During the session, the presenter highlighted the scientific and economic importance of kaolin deposits, explaining their significant role in supporting various industrial sectors due to their unique physical, chemical, and crystalline properties, which make them essential materials in many modern industrial applications.
Dr. Al-Youzbeki noted several key properties of kaolin clays, including:
- Plasticity and moldability
- Durability and light weight
- High thermal and electrical insulation efficiency
- Low extraction, processing, and manufacturing costs compared to other mineral materials
These characteristics have contributed to the widespread use of kaolin across multiple industrial fields, and he emphasized that the optimal utilization of these natural resources supports industrial development and sustainable economic returns.
This discussion session is part of the Center’s ongoing scientific activities aimed at highlighting local natural resources and demonstrating how scientific research can be applied to support sustainable industrial development.
