Director’s Speech

The Dam and Water Resources Research Center at the University of Mosul represents one of the distinguished scientific foundations dedicated to the development and advancement of Iraq’s water resources sector. Through conducting advanced research, providing specialized consultations, and implementing engineering and scientific studies that support dam projects and hydraulic systems, the Center operates according to scientific methodologies that consider sustainable development principles and aim to serve society and its vital institutions.

Since its establishment, the Center has expanded the scope of its scientific activities to encompass various water and environmental challenges facing Iraq. Studies are conducted in the fields of geotechnics, hydrology, and mathematical and computational modeling with scientific precision and a continuous commitment to providing practical solutions that enhance the efficiency of water resources management and ensure their sustainability for future generations.

The Center places significant emphasis on strengthening effective partnerships with state institutions and the private sector through multidisciplinary research teams that have delivered numerous studies and scientific proposals. These contributions have earned recognition from beneficiary organizations, demonstrated through letters of appreciation and commendation from government officials and academics.

The Center has also been dedicated to supporting and developing the capabilities of its researchers by encouraging scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals, participation in international conferences, and collaboration with regional and global universities and research organizations. This approach enhances the transfer and localization of modern technologies in water management, contributing to improved scientific and research excellence.

The Center takes pride in its contributions to scientific and advisory committees at local and national levels, which focus on developing water and engineering policies and evaluating strategic plans related to national water security. This role complements the Center’s mission in supporting infrastructure reconstruction processes and actively participating in addressing water crises and climate change challenges.

The Center continues its commitment to achieving strategic objectives through the application of quality standards and institutional accreditation, as well as conducting periodic self-assessments. These measures ensure the development of scientific and research services and the delivery of optimal contributions to society, as well as sustainable and effective water resource development.
