Water Resources Department

The department is interested in performing scientific research concerned with water resources management and development, in addition to conducting various studies and scientific projects of dams operation and reservoirs. The department also, diagnosing and handling problems raised from the water facilities and systems, studying the quality of water and sediments and their distribution within rivers and lakes, and studying the movement of groundwater in quantity, quality and distribution, as well as Conducting research on drainage, and modern irrigation systems, and preparing hydrological studies for projects submitted by government departments. Providing a large number of scientific consultations and participating in scientific committees at the related ministries and sectors.

Department tasks:

1- Conducting studies and research related to the operation of dams and reservoirs and diagnosing problems and obstacles resulting from the operation of the facility and water systems.

2- Study the management and development water resources methods.

3- Study the quantity and quality of surface and groundwater and the distribution of sediments within rivers and lakes.

4- Conducting research on irrigation, drainage, and modern irrigation systems.

5- Studying the erosion of the banks of lakes and rivers and studying mathematical models (hydraulic and hydrological).

6- Participating in teaching primary studies students and supervising postgraduate students in the relevant scientific departments.

7- Performing a different of scientific activities including evaluating research for the purposes of promotion, publication, and support, participating in conferences and scientific symposiums inside and outside Iraq, and discussion committees for graduate students.

8- Participation in specialized development courses inside and outside Iraq.

9- Cooperation with relevant research institutions and other scientific institutions.

 

The department includes scientific specializations in the fields of hydrogeology, hydrology, hydraulics, irrigation, and drainage. It should be noted that the work of department cadres is usually intertwined between researchers in terms of completing research, projects, and scientific studies.
