Supporting mental health through software engineering…

Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, attends a master’s thesis at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics
The College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University, discussed today, Wednesday, February 26, 2025, a master’s thesis entitled “Designing a mental health care application to support adolescent psychotherapy based on software engineering.
It was also attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah.
The study submitted by researcher Zainab Moayed Younis in the Department of Software addressed how to build an integrated tool to support mental health for children, adolescents and adults, based on the principles of software engineering and combining the Arabic and English languages.
It combines a manual database based on reliable sources such as Oxford and scientific research, and provides an easy-to-use interface to manage reports and send them via email with the possibility of printing. It also includes language correction and data analysis features to extract key terms and categorize cases using string matching algorithms. The project has proven successful in its application within the Nineveh Health Department at Ibn Sina Hospital, which contributes to improve mental health care and training young people to manage their mental health without harming services in larger cities.
The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Nemat Salim, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Habib Nasser, Dr. Hanan Hamed Ali, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Nektal Moayad Aidan.
