College of Engineering organizes a scientific seminar on the role of educational institutions in psychosocial and social support

 

The College of Engineering at the University of Mosul held a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Educational Institutions in Psychosocial Support” on Sunday, 1st June 2025.

Both of the Department of Media and Government Communication and the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the College organized the seminar in cooperation with the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the University’s Presidency.

The seminar was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoun, Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayman Talib Hamid, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Bassam Ihsan Abdul Qadir, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, heads of scientific departments and a number of teachers.

The opening lecture was entitled “Achievements of the College of Engineering in supporting students psychologically and socially”, delivered by Dr. Reem Ali Talib, head of the Media and Government Communication Division, and included specialized lectures delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Ali Hussein Al-Jaffal, head of the Scientific Research and Educational Studies Division in the Nineveh Education Directorate, Assistant Professor Dr. Nazdar Abdullah Mohammed Saeed, teacher Dr. Batoul Abbas Fadel, and teacher Dr. Ibtisam Mohammed Saeed from the Preparation and Training Department in the Nineveh Education Directorate.

The seminar included several themes that addressed the preventive role of psychosocial support, mechanisms of early detection and intervention, enhancing life skills, challenges and solutions.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the importance of psychological support in educational institutions, enhance the role of educational institutions in prevention and early intervention, present successful models for applying psychological support in schools and universities, and develop students’ social and emotional skills.
strengthening cooperation between educational institutions, the family and the community.

The seminar concluded with a set of findings and recommendations that focused on integrating psychological support into educational plans, qualifying teaching staff, activating the role of psychological and social counselling in universities, strengthening the partnership with the family and community, establishing psychological support units or centers within educational institutions, adopting early intervention mechanisms, and finally organizing awareness campaigns within universities.
