Global Rankings

Times Higher Education (THE)

A leading UK-based institution specializing in higher education and scientific research, founded in 1971, and internationally renowned for publishing one of the world’s most influential and reliable university rankings. In 2019, it launched for the first time the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, the world’s first global system to measure universities’ performance against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Its methodology is based on rigorous indicators, including quality of teaching, research strength, citation impact, international outlook, and collaboration with industry. Beyond rankings, the institution provides in-depth analyses and news on university policies and academic trends, making it an essential reference point for students, researchers, and policymakers worldwide.

QS World University Rankings

It is regarded as one of the most prominent and widely recognized university rankings worldwide, published by the UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) since 2004. The ranking is based on a blend of quantitative indicators and survey-based assessments, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, research citations, and the proportion of international faculty and students, along with additional metrics that reflect global engagement and collaboration.

Thanks to its reliance on large-scale surveys and diverse indicators, the QS World University Rankings has become a key reference for international students seeking to choose universities and for academic institutions aiming to measure their visibility and standing in the global higher education landscape

Shanghai Ranking

Also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), this is one of the oldest and most renowned global university rankings, first launched in 2003 by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. The ranking primarily emphasizes academic and research performance, relying on objective indicators such as: the number of alumni and faculty who have received Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the count of highly cited researchers, publications in top-tier journals such as Nature and Science, and the volume of scientific output indexed in international databases.

With its rigorous methodology and reliance on quantitative measures, the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) is considered a key reference for assessing the scientific and research standing of universities worldwide, and is often regarded as the most precise benchmark of academic research strength among global institutions.

Scimago Institutions Rankings – SIR

The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is an international classification system for academic and research institutions, published by the Spanish-based SCImago Research Group, which specializes in the analysis of scientific data. The ranking draws primarily on data from Elsevier’s Scopus database and evaluates universities and research centers across three main dimensions: research performance (number, quality, and citations of publications), innovation (patents and knowledge transfer), and societal impact (web visibility and social influence).

Due to its comprehensive scope, the SCImago Rankings extend beyond universities to include governmental and private institutions, as well as health and research centers, making it an important tool for measuring the scientific output, societal relevance, and economic impact of institutions worldwide.

UI GreenMetric

Launched in 2010 by the University of Indonesia, this was the first global ranking system to evaluate universities based on their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The ranking is structured around six key indicators: infrastructure and setting, energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, and education and research in sustainability.

The system aims to encourage universities to adopt environmentally friendly policies, reduce their carbon footprint, and strengthen their role in addressing global environmental challenges. Thanks to its rapid adoption worldwide, the UI GreenMetric Ranking has become a reference tool for institutions seeking excellence in sustainability practices and social responsibility.

Round University Ranking – RUR

The Round University Ranking (RUR) is a global ranking system launched in 2010 by the RUR Rankings Agency, headquartered in Moscow. It evaluates university performance based on 20 indicators grouped into four key dimensions: teaching quality, research excellence, international diversity, and financial sustainability.

What distinguishes the RUR system is its comprehensive and detailed approach, providing a balanced picture of institutional performance over the long term. It enables precise comparisons between universities at both national and international levels and serves as a reference tool for universities and policymakers to identify strengths and weaknesses, while guiding the improvement of academic and research strategies.
