2. Purpose / Objective
This policy aims to protect the campus environment and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors by ensuring proper waste management practices that minimize health and environmental risks. As a leading educational institution, the University views this commitment as part of its ethical mission and its responsibility toward society and the natural environment.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all buildings, facilities, streets, and gardens within the University of Mosul campus. It covers all activities related to the collection, sorting, transportation, and organized disposal of waste.
4. Principles / Commitments

Commitment to providing a clean and safe environment that supports the educational process and enhances the quality of campus life.

Ensuring that waste is managed in accordance with national laws and environmental standards.

Instilling a culture of individual and collective responsibility among students and staff in handling waste.

Maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the campus in a manner that reflects its academic and scientific standing.
5. Procedures / Implementation Mechanisms

Daily cleaning and waste collection carried out by the Services Unit of the Maintenance and Services Division.

Transferring waste to designated areas within the campus prior to its final disposal.

Providing suitable waste containers across all buildings and outdoor areas, categorized by type of waste.

Organizing awareness campaigns for students and staff on the importance of proper waste disposal and waste reduction.

Coordinating with local authorities to ensure waste is disposed of safely and responsibly.
6. Responsibilities
-
The University Presidency holds ultimate responsibility for approving and monitoring compliance with this policy.
-
The Services Unit of the Maintenance and Services Division – Department of Administrative Affairs is directly responsible for overseeing cleaning, collection, and transport activities.

All students and staff are required to use designated waste disposal areas and cooperate with service personnel.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation
-
Conducting regular inspections to ensure facilities are clean and waste disposal guidelines are being followed.

Preparing quarterly reports from the Services Unit to measure performance and identify areas for improvement.
-
Using quantitative indicators such as the volume of collected waste or participation rates in awareness campaigns.
8. Periodic Review
This policy shall be reviewed every two years by the Maintenance and Services Division – Department of Administrative Affairs, or sooner if adjustments are required due to institutional changes or updates in national regulations.
