Promising Results from Kocho Village Fields: Kalar Wheat Harvest Highlights the Potential of Conservation Agriculture in Sinjar District.

Harvesting operations of the Kalar wheat variety were carried out in the Al-Hatimiyah area of the Sinjar District, specifically in Kocho Village, as part of the research and field activities implemented by researchers from the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research. The activity, conducted on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, aimed to complete the collection of field data related to grain yield and total crop productivity.
The harvesting process forms part of the Center’s research program designed to evaluate the performance of the Kalar wheat variety under conservation agriculture practices. These practices are intended to reduce tillage operations, enhance soil conservation, and improve the efficiency of natural resource utilization, thereby contributing to the sustainability of agricultural production systems.
During the activity, researchers collected and documented yield-related data and field observations that will be used to assess the agronomic performance of the crop under conservation agriculture conditions. The resulting information will support ongoing research efforts aimed at identifying effective and sustainable farming practices suitable for the environmental conditions of Sinjar and similar regions.
The research team emphasized that the completion of harvesting and data collection represents a critical stage in evaluating the practical application of conservation agriculture technologies in farmers’ fields. The findings are expected to demonstrate the contribution of these practices to improving wheat productivity, optimizing resource use, and enhancing the resilience and sustainability of agricultural systems.
This activity contributes to strengthening food security and supporting sustainable agricultural development in Sinjar District and comparable agroecological environments. It also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
SDG 2: Zero Hunger
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 13: Climate Action
SDG 15: Life on Land
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
