Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches Initiates Study of New Field Pea genotypes in Greenhouses.

In continuation of its research activities for the current agricultural season, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul announced the commencement of preparations for a new strategic crop research project in its plastic greenhouses.

On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, greenhouses No. 4 and 5 at the Center were prepared and made ready for the planting of several newly introduced genotypes of field peas. This research project aims to study and evaluate these new genotypes from multiple aspects, including:

  • Morphological Traits: Such as plant shape and growth habit.

  • Productive Traits: To measure the quantity and quality of the yield.

  • Environmental Adaptation: To assess the suitability of these genotypes for local conditions.

  • Genetic Characteristics: To understand the genetic basis of these traits.

This activity is supervised by Dr. Islam Abdul Sattar Al-Rajbo, in collaboration with a distinguished team of the Center’s engineers. This initiative is part of the Center’s continuous efforts to introduce new crops and evaluate their performance under local conditions, thereby contributing to the diversification of food sources, providing new options for farmers, and supporting food security in Nineveh Governorate and Iraq.

This activity directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), by working to enhance food security and develop resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
