Scientific Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul.

Based on the directive of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, pursuant to Official Letter No. 3018/2419195 dated 8 June 2024, addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture and communicated to the Center for Dryland and Conservation Agriculture through the Ministry of Agriculture’s Letter No. 42838 dated 29 September 2025, which emphasized the necessity of scientific cooperation with the University of Mosul in the field of applying conservation agriculture technologies in Iraq, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches has initiated the implementation of a field experiment in joint collaboration with staff of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The experiment was conducted in Al-Ba’aj District, aiming to compare conservation agriculture with conventional agriculture under both rainfed farming systems and sprinkler irrigation systems, in order to evaluate the efficiency of these technologies in improving agricultural productivity and rationalizing the use of natural resources.
The experiment employed the Center’s specialized no-till seeder (spearhead type), locally manufactured and developed through joint cooperation between the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches and pioneering farmers. This reflects the integration of scientific research efforts with practical field application.
This scientific and research cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul represents an important step toward supporting sustainable agricultural practices and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 2: Zero Hunger – ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
SDG 13: Climate Action – through reducing soil degradation and enhancing adaptation to climate change.
