Maintenance of Greenhouses at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at University of Mosul.

Under the direct field supervision and guidance of the Center Director, Professor Dr. Mohammed Subhi Al-Taweel, a team comprising the heads of the Field Crops Department and the Genetic Resources Department, along with researchers and agricultural engineers of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research , carried out a maintenance campaign for the center’s greenhouses on the morning of Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The campaign included the manual removal of invasive plants and weeds without the use of chemical herbicides, in order to preserve the agricultural environment inside the greenhouses and improve conditions for scientific research activities. This effort contributes to enhancing research efficiency and ensuring a clean and sustainable production environment.
This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including: Goal 2: Zero Hunger — by improving agricultural research conditions and increasing crop productivity within greenhouses. Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being — as manual weed removal without herbicides reduces chemical pollution and safeguards the health of workers and the surrounding environment. Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation — through maintaining an optimal agricultural environment that supports efficient water use and reduces waste.Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production — by adopting environmentally friendly management practices in greenhouse operations, promoting sustainable production.Goal 13: Climate Action — as reducing pesticide use and relying on manual methods helps limit harmful emissions and supports climate adaptation.Goal 15: Life on Land — by protecting agricultural ecosystems from chemical contamination and preserving biodiversity within the greenhouses.
