Annual Evaluation… An Opportunity to Improve Performance and Achieve Research Excellence… Scientific Workshop at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research – University of Mosul.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Sobhi Mustafa Al-Taweel, Director of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research, the Center— in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency—organized a workshop on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, entitled: “Annual Evaluation: An Opportunity to Improve Performance and Achieve Research Excellence.”

The lectures were delivered by Assistant Lecturer Nawaf Jassim Mohammed, Lecturer Abbas Ali Ahmed, and Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Ibrahim Abd. The presentations addressed the concept of annual evaluation as one of the most important administrative and academic tools adopted by educational and research institutions to enhance performance quality and elevate the level of scientific output.

The workshop emphasized that annual evaluation is not merely a routine procedure or administrative requirement; rather, it represents a strategic opportunity to review achievements, identify strengths, address shortcomings, and develop improvement plans that contribute to research excellence and institutional sustainability—positively reflecting on the university’s reputation and academic ranking.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of utilizing evaluation results in developing research plans, motivating the Center’s researchers, and strengthening an institutional work environment based on transparency, accountability, and high performance.

The workshop themes align with several Sustainable Development Goals, including:

Goal 4: Quality Education — as evaluation serves as a key tool for improving the quality of education and scientific research. Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth — by supporting a productive work environment based on efficiency and achievement. Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure — through strengthening scientific research and supporting institutional innovation. Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals — by promoting academic and research collaboration and building effective partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.

This workshop forms part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to institutionalize a culture of evaluation and continuous improvement, thereby enhancing research performance quality and supporting academic development at the university.
