Workshop at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research : “Certification Standards in Potato Seed Production”.

   The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research , in collaboration with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul, held a workshop titled “Certification Standards in Potato Seed Production” on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The workshop was under the patronage of Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi and supervised by Mohammed Sobhi Mustafa Al-Tawil.

   The workshop highlighted the importance of applying rigorous certification standards to produce disease-free potato seeds with pure genetic traits, ensuring higher yields, improved crop quality, and supporting food security and sustainable agriculture. Presenters included Mohammed Sobhi Al-Tawil, Moen Mohammed Saleh, and assistant lecturers Amar Habib Mahmoud and Azhar Omar Ali.

   The workshop aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Goal 1 (No Poverty): Increasing farmers’ income through higher crop productivity.

  • Goal 2 (Zero Hunger): Ensuring sufficient and nutritious food for the population.

  • Goal 13 (Climate Action): Developing varieties that withstand harsh environmental conditions.

  • Goal 15 (Life on Land): Preserving plant genetic diversity and protecting soil and agricultural ecosystems.

   This workshop reflects the center’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and implement the highest scientific standards in the production of strategic crops.
