The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research Monitors Genetic Lines of Barley and Faba Bean.

The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul continues implementing its research program to monitor field trials of genotypes of barley and faba bean, as part of its efforts to enhance agricultural sustainability and develop production systems in dry and semi-arid environments.
The research team, consisting of Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammed Saleh and Assistant Lecturer Ammar Habib Mahmoud, conducted field visits during the growing season, including on Sunday, March 29, 2026, to evaluate the performance of genotypes under environmental stress conditions, particularly water scarcity and high temperatures.
This activity reflects the center’s leading role in utilizing scientific research to serve the agricultural sector by developing improved varieties capable of adapting to climate change, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources.
This research effort is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, including:
-
Zero Hunger: by increasing crop productivity and improving food quality.
-
Sustainable Water Management: through developing drought-tolerant varieties.
-
Responsible Consumption and Production: by improving resource-use efficiency.
-
Climate Action: by supporting adaptation to climate change.
-
Life on Land: by maintaining soil fertility and promoting the role of legume crops.
