The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research carries out a weed-control spraying campaign in wheat fields of Awainat farmers under conservation and conventional farming systems.

As part of supporting the agricultural sector and enhancing wheat productivity, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul implemented, within its annual research plan, a field program for spraying herbicides in several wheat fields cultivated under both conservation and conventional farming systems in the Awainat area, on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
The activity was supervised by a specialized team headed by Prof. Dr. Salem Hamadi Antar, with the participation of several researchers and agricultural engineers. The campaign included the application of herbicides and monitoring of ongoing field experiments.
This activity aims to reduce the impact of weeds that compete with crops for essential resources, thereby contributing to improved agricultural productivity and more efficient use of resources.
It is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
