College of Science at the University of Mosul Discusses Master’s Thesis on the Spectrophotometric Estimation of Pharmaceutical Compounds
The College of Science at the University of Mosul held a discussion on a master’s thesis titled “Spectrophotometric Estimation of Several Pharmaceutical Compounds in Their Pure Form and Pharmaceutical Preparations” on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The session was attended in part by Prof. Munir Salem Taha, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs.
The study, presented by Hind Khalid Salman Khudair from the Department of Chemistry, focused on developing indirect spectrophotometric analytical methods to estimate:
1. Cefixime trihydrate using oxidation and decolorization reactions of magenta dye in the first method and oxidation reactions in the presence of para-anisidine in the second method.
2. Methyldopa using oxidative coupling reactions with ferric nitrate and mesalazine as a reagent.
3. Isoprenaline hydrochloride using azo coupling reactions with para-nitroaniline as a reagent.
The objective of the study was to develop simple and sensitive spectrophotometric methods for the estimation of cefixime trihydrate, methyldopa, and isoprenaline hydrochloride in their pharmaceutical formulations.
