At the First Scientific Forum in Wasit: Minister of Higher Education Announces the Establishment of a New Public University in the Province

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, announced the establishment of a new public university in Wasit, aiming to support the developmental needs of provinces and enhance their educational environments and specialized programs.

This announcement came during his speech at the opening of the First Scientific Forum in Wasit Province. The Minister emphasized that the Ministry has carefully prepared to address the developmental requirements of all Iraqi provinces, strengthening their educational ecosystems. Over 100 new academic entities, including universities, colleges, departments, and institutes, have been established, prioritizing disciplines and programs that meet societal needs in fields such as medicine, engineering, technology, pure sciences, agriculture, veterinary sciences, administration, economics, and the humanities and social sciences.

Dr. Al-Aboudi highlighted that this focus required extensive collaboration and joint coordination with provincial officials, governments, and local councils to address challenges and pave the way for university development. He noted that these efforts have been a priority over the past two years of ministerial responsibility.

Wasit Governor Dr. Mohammed Jameel Al-Mayahy, in his speech, stated that higher education in Iraq is experiencing a distinguished phase. He praised Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi for his pioneering achievements, including the internationalization of education and the “Study in Iraq” program to attract international students. Meanwhile, Wasit University President Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi emphasized the significance of the forum and the university’s role in achieving developmental goals.

The forum includes scientific and research sessions shedding light on Wasit’s social and economic life throughout history, translation movements, culture, literature, and its prominent scholars and figures.
