The Translation of Mosteghanemi’s Novel “Chaos into English: A Discourse Analysis Study.
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Mosul discussed a PhD dissertation on the translation of Ahlam Mosteghanemi’s novel “Chaos of the Senses” into English: A Discourse Analysis Study on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
It was attended by the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Munir Salem Taha, and the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Mohammed Afin.
The study, submitted by Saba Jassim, a student in the Department of Translation, dealt with translation as a complex process that involves preserving the essence of the original text and reconstructing the meaning in addition to linking the cultures of the two languages.
It analyzed Ahlam Mostaganmi’s novel “The Chaos of Senses” in Arabic and its translation into English from a discursive perspective.
The study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the novel as a literary genre, by applying Robert de Beaugrand’s (1997) multidimensional framework in its three aspects: Linguistic, cognitive, and social, to check whether the translators have been able to transfer the linguistic characteristics, narrative structure, and sociocultural manifestations to the translated texts.
The study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the novel in its Arabic and English versions from the perspectives of discourse analysis and translation.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Kamal Hazem Hussein and included
Prof. Dr. Ali Suleiman Zuraiji from Tikrit University, Prof. Dr. Luqman Abdulkarim Nasser, Prof. Dr. Salem Yahya Fathi, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Hamid Ibrahim
Under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Hala Khaled Najm
