College of Environmental Sciences organizes a scientific seminar on the effects of radioactive pollution on environmental elements

The Department of Environmental Health at the College of Environmental Sciences, in cooperation with Al-Hadbaa University, held its third scientific symposium entitled “Effects of Radioactive Pollution on Environmental Elements”, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
It was attended by the President of the Syndicate of University Academics, Prof. Dr. Basil Khalaf Hammoud, Dr. Riad Abdullah Al-Taie, Assistant President of Al-Hadbaa University for Scientific Affairs, Dean of the College, Prof. Muthanna Jassim, and a number of teachers.
It aimed to highlight the importance of radioactive pollution and its impact on the environment and public health, symptoms of its effects on humans and animals and the risks of serious diseases, including cancer and genetic changes in fetuses and its effects on food and environmental systems, discussing the most important modern scientific research in this field to develop effective and sustainable solutions to address its issues, modern techniques used to protect workers and those exposed to it and ensure their safety from the radioactive materials used and the necessary procedures to protect against its effects, and increasing citizen awareness in identifying the laws in force to protect against its dangers.
The work of the seminar proceeded within several axes, including
types of radioactive pollution and its impact on humans, the effects of radioactive pollution on animals and plants, the reproductive uses of radiation in public life and the environment sustainably, the most important legal legislations to reduce the risk of radioactive pollution, and the position of Islamic Sharia on radioactive pollution.
