University of Mosul: A Key Partner in Climate Adaptation Initiatives in Nineveh

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the University of Mosul organized a symposium titled “Climate Adaptation Initiatives in Nineveh”, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KFW), with the presence of UNDP and a number of experts and specialists.
The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, in the presence of Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jassim, the Assistant of the President for Scientific Affairs, and Assistant Professor Dr. Rafal Hassan Hamed, the Assistant of the President for Administrative Affairs. Also in attendance were representatives from the Nineveh Governorate, Engineer Sinan Subhi Ali, Director of Environment in Nineveh representing the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, as well as members of the University Council and several specialized companies.
The symposium included extensive discussions on climate adaptation initiatives and the role of academic institutions in addressing the challenges of climate change. It also featured sessions and workshops that focused on innovation, planning, recommendations, and the adoption of future strategies and plans to confront and mitigate the effects of climate change.
It is worth noting that Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, made an intervention in which he emphasized the importance of completing the Badush Dam to achieve water security for Nineveh Governorate and its contribution to completing the Al-Jazira Irrigation Project and supporting the agricultural sector.
