University of Mosul and Security Authorities Discuss Facilitating Reception and Residency Procedures for International Students in the “Study in Iraq” Program

Reaffirming its role as an attractive academic and educational environment, and in a bid to ease the reception and residency procedures for international students, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, held a meeting on August 10, 2025, with Brigadier General Hikam Daham Al-Jawari, Director of the Civil Status, Residency, and Passports Directorate; Brigadier General Basel Abdul-Ghani Al-Rawi, Director of Residency; as well as representatives of the National Security Service and the Intelligence Service in Nineveh Governorate.

The meeting discussed a series of measures and proposals to address the challenges encountered during the previous academic year. Key points included: coordination between the University and the Residency Directorate to create a unified student file template to be provided free of charge; nominating official University representatives for direct communication with the Civil Status, Passports, and Residency offices; and exploring the possibility of establishing on-campus offices for the National Security Service, Intelligence Service, and Residency Department to streamline procedures without requiring students to visit external offices.

It was also agreed to conduct medical examinations for students in centers accredited by the Ministries of Interior and Health, in addition to adopting other organizational measures that support the University’s and the Ministry of Higher Education’s goal of attracting students from across the globe.

It is noteworthy that the number of international applicants to the University of Mosul under the “Study in Iraq” program has reached 350 students so far, with expectations of further growth in the coming academic year.
