The Prime Minister Opened Al-Noori Grand Mosque in Mosul

The University of Mosul, represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, attended the opening ceremony of the Al-Noori Grand Mosque in the city of Mosul, which took place on September 1, 2025, under the patronage and presence of Prime Minister Engineer Mohammad Shiya’ Al-Sudani. The event was attended by several official, religious, and community figures.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Education, the Governor of Nineveh, and a selection of the province’s representatives, along with the Emirati Minister of Culture, a high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates, and representatives from UNESCO, as well as other local and international personalities.
This event is part of a comprehensive program by the Prime Minister in Nineveh Governorate, which also includes the opening of the Al-Hadba Minaret, the Church of the Hour, and the Church of Al-Tahera, all of which have been rebuilt. The Al-Noori Grand Mosque, which was reconstructed by UNESCO with generous support from the United Arab Emirates over more than five years, was previously destroyed by the ISIS terrorist organization.
The significance of these reconstruction projects lies in their pivotal role in reviving the cultural, religious, and social life of the city of Mosul. They aim to strengthen the values of coexistence and peace among the city’s diverse communities, contribute to restoring the city’s cultural identity, and enhance the local and international community’s confidence in its ability to rise again.
