Local Water Resources Challenges Under the Spotlight of the University of Mosul

 

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, the President of Mosul University, the College of Engineering held on Thursday, 16 October, 2025, the first scientific symposium entitled “Lack of Water in Nineveh Governorate: Reality, Challenges, Sustainable Solutions” in cooperation with Parliament Office in Nineveh.

The symposium was attended by Professor Dr. Muzahim Al-Khayat, Chairman of the Parliamentary Education Committee, Assistant Professor Dr. Rafel Hasan Hamed, Assistant to the University President for Academic Affairs, Professor Aws Azzam Ali, Director of the Council of Representatives Office, Assistant Professor Dr. Basil Khalaf, Head of the Academics Syndicate, Nineveh Branch, and a group of concerned department directors, academics, and researchers.

The symposium included two scientific sessions comprising six lectures on the operation of distillation stations, the engineering challenges of the Mosul Dam, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies in water management, and rain harvesting and modern irrigation solutions.
The symposium recommended strengthening regional water cooperation, rehabilitating water stations, implementing advanced irrigation systems, and adopting modern technologies to ensure the sustainability of water resources in Nineveh.
