UNESCO Chair at Mosul University Enhances Knowledge Interaction Through the “Reading in Green Spaces” Initiative

As part of its cultural activities aimed at promoting a culture of peace, rejecting extremism, and enhancing intellectual awareness among university students, the UNESCO Chair for Combating Violent Extremism and Promoting a Culture of Peace at Mosul University organized a distinguished cultural event titled “Reading in Green Spaces” on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The event was attended by Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of Mosul University.

The activity aimed to spread the culture of reading and free reading as an intellectual and aesthetic practice that shapes the personality of university students and strengthens their connection to knowledge and creativity. The event was dedicated to reading and discussing selected pieces of world literature, held in an open-air setting under the shade of trees in the Student Center Gardens facing the central library, with participation from a group of students from various colleges.

In his speech, the university president emphasized that such activities embody the university’s mission of promoting cultural and intellectual interaction within the campus, revitalizing reading as a vital tool for building human awareness. He also praised the efforts of the UNESCO Chair in organizing purposeful programs that contribute to spreading the values of dialogue, tolerance, and intellectual openness.

This event is part of a series of initiatives by the UNESCO Chair at Mosul University aimed at reviving the act of reading in non-traditional spaces and linking it to nature as a source of reflection and beauty, in its pursuit of building a balanced university awareness that combines thought, culture, and human beauty.
